Sur-Ron vs Talaria vs Stark Varg: The Full 2026 Comparison
Sur-Ron vs Talaria vs Stark Varg: The Full 2026 Comparison
These are the three names every electric dirt bike conversation in the UK comes back to. Sur-Ron is the agile, backyard-to-trail original. Talaria is the gear-drive rival that trades a little refinement for more torque per pound. Stark Varg is a different category entirely — a genuine 450cc-class electric motocross bike. Here's how they actually compare, not just on paper.
At a glance
| Model | Peak power | Top speed | Range | From |
| Sur-Ron Light Bee X | 6kW | 45mph | 47mi | £3,199 |
| Sur-Ron Ultra Bee | 11kW | 55mph | 50mi | £4,999 |
| Talaria Sting R MX4 | 8kW | 53mph | 53mi | £3,735 |
| Talaria Komodo TL6000 | 22kW | 66mph | 70mi | £5,495 |
| Stark Varg MX 1.2 | 60kW / 80HP | Race-dependent | N/A (MX use) | £10,490 |
Sur-Ron — the all-rounder
The Light Bee X is still the bike most riders should start with: light at around 57kg, genuinely agile, and backed by the biggest aftermarket and resale market of any electric dirt bike in the UK. The Ultra Bee steps the power up considerably for riders who've outgrown it. Sur-Ron's strength is balance — nothing it does is the most extreme in its class, but nothing about it is hard to live with either.
Talaria — more torque, gear-drive feel
Talaria's gear-drive system (versus Sur-Ron's belt drive) gives noticeably stronger low-end torque, which riders coming from petrol dirt bikes tend to prefer immediately. The Sting R MX4 undercuts the Ultra Bee on price while out-ranging it slightly. The Komodo TL6000 is Talaria's flagship — 22kW and a genuine 70-mile range puts it ahead of anything Sur-Ron currently sells.
Stark Varg — a different machine entirely
The Varg MX 1.2 isn't really competing with the other two — it's a full-size, race-ready electric motocross bike that genuinely matches a 450cc petrol MX bike on power, with a 7.2kWh battery and proper KYB suspension. It costs roughly double the next most expensive bike here, and it's built for riders who already know how to ride a 450, not as a step-up bike.
Which one should you actually buy?
First electric dirt bike, mixed trail/backyard riding: Sur-Ron Light Bee X — the safest, most supported choice. Want more torque for the same rough money: Talaria Sting R. Biggest range and power without going full MX: Talaria Komodo. Experienced MX rider who wants a genuine race bike: Stark Varg — nothing else here is really a substitute.
Running costs
All three use broadly similar lithium battery packs that need eventual replacement — Sur-Ron LBX batteries start from £699, Talaria Sting R batteries from £899, and the Stark Varg's 6.5kWh pack is £3,499 given its size. Day-to-day running costs — electricity instead of petrol, no servicing intervals — are a fraction of a comparable petrol bike across all three brands.
