Surron Storm Bee Review
Sur-Ron Storm Bee Review: 21.5kW of Full-Size Electric MX Power
The Sur-Ron Storm Bee is a different animal to everything else Sur-Ron makes. This is a full-size electric motocross machine — a genuine 1:1 replacement for a 250–350cc petrol bike — with 21.5kW of peak power, a top speed around 68mph and up to 60 miles of range. At £7,999 it's the flagship of the range, and this review covers exactly what that money buys and who should be spending it.

A genuine petrol-bike replacement
The Light Bee X and Ultra Bee are brilliant, but they are trail bikes. The Storm Bee is a motocross machine: full-size 21in/18in wheels, motorcycle-grade ergonomics, a long wheelbase for high-speed stability and a chassis built around a compact three-layer stack of battery, controller and motor that centralises mass and keeps unsprung weight low. Riders stepping across from 250–350cc four-strokes consistently report the same thing — the Storm Bee holds its own on real enduro terrain, then beats the petrol bike on instant torque, silence and zero maintenance.
21.5kW and the Turbo button
In its standard riding modes the Storm Bee is fast but civilised, with smooth, linear power that flatters technical riding. Activate Turbo mode and the motor releases its full 21.5kW — acceleration that genuinely surprises riders used to anything smaller. Sur-Ron's ASR traction control, developed from the brand's cross-country racing programme, monitors rear wheel spin in real time and keeps that power usable on loose ground rather than lighting up the rear tyre. The result is a bike whose huge performance remains controllable — but make no mistake, this is a machine for experienced riders.
Battery, range and charging
The Storm Bee runs a 104V high-voltage pack — a completely different architecture to the 60V and 74V systems in Sur-Ron's smaller bikes — delivering up to 60 miles at a moderate pace. Push hard with regular Turbo use and range drops, as with any performance EV, but a full trail session on one charge is realistic. Adjustable regenerative braking recovers energy on descents and gives a natural engine-braking feel. When the time comes, a genuine Storm Bee 104V replacement battery is available, and our battery & charger guide covers care for high-voltage packs.
Suspension and chassis
Long-travel, fully adjustable suspension at both ends is tuned for genuine motocross and enduro use — jumps, whoops and rough terrain at speed, not just trail imperfections. The steering geometry balances high-speed stability with a tight turning ability that's unusual for a bike this size, and hydraulic disc brakes provide the stopping power that 68mph demands.
Storm Bee vs Stark Varg
The obvious rival is the Stark Varg, the Swedish competition machine. The Varg is the more extreme motocross weapon with a higher performance ceiling and a higher price; the Storm Bee counters with strong real-world range, Sur-Ron's established UK parts and dealer ecosystem, and a £7,999 price that undercuts the Varg significantly. For pure MX competition, look at the Varg. For fast trail and enduro riding with occasional track days, the Storm Bee is the more rounded — and more affordable — choice.
Who is the Storm Bee for?
Experienced riders only. If you're currently on a Light Bee X or Ultra Bee, the step up in power is substantial and demands respect. The ideal Storm Bee owner already rides petrol enduro or MX machinery and wants electric advantages — instant torque, silence, near-zero maintenance and no fuel costs — without giving up full-size performance. It's off-road only, for private land and tracks; see our road-legal guide for what UK road use requires.
Verdict
The Storm Bee is one of the most capable electric off-road motorcycles money can currently buy in the UK, and at £7,999 it's priced well below its closest competition. If you have the experience to use it and the land or track access to enjoy it, it delivers everything the spec sheet promises.
